Rachel Wightman, MD is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Epidemiology at Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She is triple board-certified in medical toxicology, emergency medicine, and addiction medicine. She is Director of Toxicology and Addiction Medicine for Brown Emergency Medicine and a Consulting Medical Director at Rhode Island Department of Health.
She co-founded the Rhode Island Buprenorphine Hotline, a statewide telehealth low-threshold buprenorphine treatment access line in partnership with Rhode Island Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities, and Hospitals funded by SAMSHA. Dr. Wightman is MPI on a NIDA funded study identifying optimal buprenorphine dosing for OUD treatment and prevention of overdose (UG3DA056880) and MPI on a Foundation for Opioid Response Efforts (FORE) study evaluating local drug supply changes (testRI). She was the PI on a NIDA funded study evaluating cannabis hyperemesis syndrome (R21 DA055023) and has been Site-PI and Co-I on NIDA and CDC grants related to opioid and cannabis use.
