Martha Whitfield, PhD, APRN, is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Vermont where she teaches in the graduate nursing program. Her primary research focus is nurse practitioner treatment of addiction within primary care settings. She completed her doctoral studies in Nursing at Queeen's Univeristy in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, where her research looked at how nurse practitioners experienced capability development in the treatment of opioid use disorder in Canadian and U.S. primary care settings. She works clinically as a family nurse pracititoner providing primary care services in a rural Federally Qualitfied Health Center in Vermont. Other interests include qualitative research methodologies, philosophy of nursing, nurse practitioner education, and the intersection of arts and health.
