Payam Sazegar obtained his medical degree from the University of British Columbia where he subsequently completed his Family Medicine residency in 2008 and fellowship in Addiction Medicine in 2010. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and American Board of Preventive Medicine. He has been practicing Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine in California since 2013. Dr Sazegar is an Assistant Professor at Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine where he serves as the Family Medicine Specialty Director and Clerkship Director. He is also a core faculty member at Kaiser Permanente San Diego Family Medicine Residency Program. As a family medicine educator, he is interested in knowledge translation especially as it pertains to improving care for patients with substance use disorders. He is active in clinical research and peer reviews for several medical journals. Dr Sazegar is a regular speaker and presenter for educational activities of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, American Academy of Family Physicians and American Society of Addiction Medicine. Outside of work he enjoys time with his wife and children, community service, frequenting the beaches and restaurants of San Diego, traveling the world, and coaching basketball.
