A complex, bi-directional relationship has been observed between chronic pain and addiction. It has been posited that central nervous system (CNS) mechanisms might underlie this relationship. Dr. Hall will present his 'light phenotyping' research which implicates CNS pain amplification aka 'Central Sensitization' in linking clinically relevant features of chronic pain, opioid use disorder (OUD), and alcohol use disorder (AUD). Possible implications for future research and precision treatment of comorbid chronic pain and addictive disorders will be discussed.
