Our patients have a myriad of reasons to leave SUD care, from crippling post-fentanyl anxiety, severe cravings despite high dose MOUD, and ongoing social pressures to continue substance use. To counter these factors, keep people in SUD care and reduce overdose/poisoning deaths we must create services that are easy, immediate and welcoming. This interactive workshop will explore ways to create very low-barrier and easy-access services with a focus on patient voice and self-determination.

Learning Objectives:

Learners will be able to:

Describe low-barrier SUD programs designed to maximize patient engagement and retention, such as mobile vans, telehealth and peer-facilitated services
Analyze their organizations' services using key strategies for maximally-supportive care including staff attitudes, access and availability, visit modalities, language and stigma.
Promote patient involvement in program design and implementation using a variety of strategies including advisory boards, focus groups, open community forums and individual feedback.
