In 2022, the DEA updated the 72-hour rule to allow hospitals to dispense up to a three-day supply of methadone at discharge, but provided scant implementation guidance. Led by a multi-institutional panel of physicians and pharmacists who have successfully implemented successful methadone dispensing, this interactive workshop will detail implementation strategies for dispensing methadone in acute care settings: 1) ED, 2) regular hospital discharge, 3) hospital discharge to post-acute care. Participants will be empowered to implement similar protocols at their institutions.

Upon completion, participants will be able to describe key stakeholders for implementation of the new 72-hour rule in acute care settings.
Upon completion, participants will be able to adopt the 72-hour rule to participants’ practice using tools from case-based examples across a variety of clinical settings.
