Counseling outcomes may be adversely affected by microaggressions experienced during the treatment process. Thus, it is important for therapists to know specific strategies for acknowledging microaggressions that happen during the group experience and intervene appropriately. Attendees will learn about a proposed integrated approach that incorporates a multicultural orientation framework, broaching behaviors, and antibias microintervention strategies to address microaggressions during addiction treatment groups. The audience will also review a case study and explore specific considerations related to implementation.
Learning Objectives:
Learners will be able to:
Describe three aspects of the multicultural orientation framework.
Identify the various types of microaggressions, broaching styles and dimensions, and microintervention strategies.
Apply the new integrated approach to a client scenario.
