Adolescents and young adults with substance use disorders face the brunt of ever-evolving substance use epidemics, and many addiction providers feel unequipped to address the unique challenges of this population. This interactive workshop will explore and elucidate topics relevant to caring for adolescents and young adults with substance use concerns with a focus on multidisciplinary approaches. From confidentiality to strength-based frameworks, this workshop will cover tools you can use to improve your knowledge and ability to care for this population.

Learning Objectives:

Learners will be able to:

Develop frameworks to address complex psychosocial needs and healthcare barriers for adolescents and young adults with substance use disorders.
Describe the importance of confidentiality when working with adolescents and young adults, its role in rapport building, understanding legal contexts, and when it is medically necessary to breach confidentiality.
Integrate available interprofessional resources to optimize health services for adolescents and young adults with substance use disorders and understand the value of these resources.
