Becoming Certified in Addiction Medicine and How to Continue That Certification
Developed in Collaboration with the American Board of Preventive Medicine

The American Board of Preventive Medicine offers physicians the opportunity to become certified in Addiction Medicine. Eligibility to sit for the subspecialty exam is through the Practice Pathway or Fellowship Pathway, and the application process will be explained in detail. Those who are already certified in Addiction Medicine by ABPM need to participate in the Continuing Certification Program (CCP). Detailed information will be provided about the transition from Maintenance of Certification (MOC) to CCP, including requirements for calendar year 2024.

Learning Objectives:

Learners will be able to:
  • Identify the different pathways to certification in Addiction Medicine through the American Board of Preventive Medicine .
  • Recognize requirements to be eligible for certification in Addiction Medicine through the American Board of Preventive Medicine .
  • Discuss the American Board of Preventive Medicine ’s transition from Maintenance of Certification (MOC) to an innovative and flexible Continuing Certification Program (CCP) in Addiction Medicine through ABPM.
