In this session we use the public health and neurobiology of tobacco and nicotine to understand addictive disorders more broadly. Attendees will learn about populations who are disproportionately affected by nicotine and tobacco use, including adolescents, pregnant individuals, people with psychiatric and addictive disorders, Native, Black and LGBTQIA individuals. Attendees will leave this course with a toolkit of best practices-- patient resources, counseling techniques and pharmacotherapy-- to help ALL people who use tobacco and nicotine quit.

Learning Objectives:

Learners will be able to:

Prescribe optimized pharmacotherapy, counsel effectively and offer tobacco cessation resources to all patients who use tobacco.
Tailor individualized tobacco cessation interventions to Black, Native, LGBTQIA, pregnant and adolescent individuals to overcome disparities these populations experience.
Apply the knowledge of nicotine neurobiology, public health and health care disparities seen among tobacco users to other substance use disorders.
