Housing for People with Substance Use Disorders: Best Practices, Innovations, and Gaps

The goal of this session is to increase understanding and awareness about existing housing models for people with substance use disorders, the evidence base behind these models, and funding mechanisms for each model. The speakers will describe challenges in maintaining fidelity to the models and gaps in funding, with the expectation that clinicians can use this information when helping patients navigate available services, and also in local and federal advocacy efforts to increase housing supports.

Learning Objectives:

Learners will be able to:
  • Describe the Housing First model including intended population, evidence base practices, and funding.
  • Describe the Recovery Housing model including intended population, evidence base practices, and funding.
  • List at least two challenges related to funding for housing services.
