In this session, we will review the public health trends, screening methods for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) during pregnancy, and general treatment recommendations, covering medication options, pharmacologic differences in pregnancy, and emerging treatments, alongside discussions on intrapartum and postpartum pain management and Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome (NOWS).

Learners will be able to:

Analyze current public health trends related to opioid use disorder (OUD) during pregnancy.
Evaluate the impact of OUD on maternal and fetal health outcomes.
Explore evidence-based guidelines and recommendations for the screening, diagnosis, and management of OUD during pregnancy.
Evaluate and assess the pharmacological differences in pregnancy and options for treatment of OUD.
Develop strategies for assessing and addressing the safety and stability of pregnant individuals with OUD.
Define neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS), including its clinical presentation, risk factors, and diagnostic criteria, to facilitate early identification and intervention.
