Marissa Andres-Kim, MD, is a double board-certified physician in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine who is employed full-time as the Supervising Psychiatrist at the West Valley Mental Health Center for the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health in Southern California. Dr. Andres-Kim is also the creator and leader of the DMH Psychiatrist Network, which is focused on promoting physician wellness through self-empathy workshops and activities focused on intellectual stimulation and camaraderie across the county's programs. At her clinic, Dr. Andres-Kim established multidisciplinary teams focused on providing coordinated patient care for high-risk populations, including those struggling with co-occurring substance use disorders and those with mental health issues while pregnant or post-partum. Dr. Andres-Kim completed her bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and the Physiological Sciences from UCLA, her medical degree from UC Davis, and her general psychiatry training at Harbor-UCLA. Dr. Andres-Kim is certified in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from the New Center for Psychoanalysis and trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy from Harbor-UCLA. Dr. Andres-Kim incorporates cross-cultural psychiatry, humanism, just culture, and psychoeducation in her treatment of patients and in her leadership style. In 2019, Dr. Andres-Kim joined Dr. Brian Hurley and Dr. Iman Parhami at ASAM to put together an interactive workshop on the treatment of Cannabis Use. It is Dr. Andres-Kim’s privilege and pleasure to return to ASAM once again in 2024 with Dr. Hurley and Dr. Parhami to put together another interactive workshop on the treatment of Kratom Use.
