Medical Director, Center for Recovery Medicine
Center for Inclusion Health, Allegheny Health Network, Pennsylvania
Heather Richards, MD, is the Medical Director of the Center for Recovery Medicine within the Center for Inclusion Health (CIH) at Allegheny Health Network (AHN). She completed her residency in internal medicine at AHN and joined the Center for Inclusion Health upon her graduation. During her early years with CIH, she focused her work on providing HIV and primary care to underserved patients in varying clinics, the county jail, and homeless shelters, and was instrumental in developing Pittsburgh’s first medical respite program. As she encountered increasing numbers of patients using opioids, she started a Suboxone clinic that has expanded greatly to now treat patients with any substance use. Due to her significant interest and work in the field of addiction, she decided to pursue and obtain board certification in addiction medicine in 2021. Since that time, she has assumed the role of Medical Director of the Center for Recovery Medicine, AHN’s addiction medicine program, and oversees both inpatient and outpatient addiction medicine services at several locations within AHN.
