Peer Recovery Mentor
Fora Health Treatment and Recovery , Oregon
My name My name is Parker Swope and I am a Certified Recovery Mentor (CRM) at Fora Health Treatment and Recovery. I am an alumni of the University of Oregon and have been working in the recovery field for almost 8 years. From the age of 16 to 24 I struggled with an addiction to opiates. During this time, I graduated from High school in California and moved to Eugene to attend the University of Oregon. While living in Eugene as a student, my addiction became increasingly more unmanageable. I struggled with my attendance and was forced to take time away from school on multiple occasions. In 2013, through residential and intensive outpatient treatment, I was finally able to achieve sobriety. While in treatment I noticed a lack of staff with lived experience. This is what inspired me to work in recovery.
I began working in recovery in 2015 when I worked as an adolescent residential counselor. After a year, I decided to pursue a job as an addictions counselor, which lasted for a year. It was at this time that I moved to Fora Health, then Depaul Treatment Centers. In the almost 6 years that I have been at Fora I have worked in admissions, as an Addictions Counselor, and finally as a Peer Recovery Mentor. I truly feel as though I have found my calling as a Mentor. This position allows me a more hands on approach to working with patients. I work with patients in both our Outpatient and Residential programs. Some of my responsibilities include supporting patients by escorting them to appointments, applying for funding for basic needs, assisting patients in searching for sober housing and more. This has been the most rewarding job and I am proud to work at such a strong, supportive organization.
