Amy Leibowitz, PsyD directs implementation studies testing innovative methods for integrating substance use treatment into primary care at Kaiser Permanente Northern California’s Center for Addiction and Mental Health Research. A clinical psychologist by training, Dr. Leibowitz received her graduate degree at the California School of Professional Psychology and training and experience at settings including intensive day treatment, college counseling centers, and substance use treatment clinics. She has been an interventionist for RCTs, delivering motivational interviewing in adult primary care and HIV clinics, and has trained and coached clinicians in multiple disciplines to learn and practice MI. She also has a private psychotherapy practice in Oakland, California. Dr. Leibowitz is passionate about meeting patients where they are; implementing innovative, achievable models for lowering barriers to treatment; and destigmatizing conversations about substance use.
